A Circular Design Studio - Rebrand

Brand Design
Concept
Visual and Graphic Design

A Circular Design Studio was founded by Andreas Zacho in 2020. His work is a fusion of Danish Design, sustainibility, and collaboration. All of his products are 100% recycled. During my time living abroad in Copenhagen, I was able to rebrand A Circular Design Studio as part of an ongoing series.

The process started with understanding of A Circular’s ethos and meaning.

How would it change?

How could I create an identity that represented the materials, design, and differentiate from other furniture brands in Denmark?

I created some concept identities up for review that helped tell the story of how I got to the identity choice I made my final case study.

I decided on using the primary colors for the color palette because it can capture the brightness of circular products and also mix with any color to create a variety of colors just like A Circular Design Studio’s product.

The Black Panter Party Rebrand

Branding
Concept

The Black Panthers is a political and civil rights organization founded in 1966 by college students Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in Oakland, California. Upon its’ creation, The Black Panther Party were protectors, educators, and providers for Black and oppressed people across the United States. They provided food, shelter, books, and help to everyone in their communities

Posters created by Emory Douglas

With direct artistic influence from Graphic Artist and The Black Panther Party’s Minister of Culture, Emory Douglas, this rebrand is an attempt to turn The Black Panther Party into an organization applicable for digital and physical spaces. Empowering the Black community is at the forefront of this project and influenced by the love and influence that our ancestors had in fighting against oppression.

Upholding the tradition of San Kofa which is to “understand the past to change the future” is what led me to really wanting to do rebrand one of the most sacred and celebrated organizations of the Black experience in the world today. Rebranding The Black Panther Party by celebrating its’ history for the future.

Typography

The primary typeface Martin by Tré Seals of Vocal Type was directly influenced by non-violent protesting during the Civil Rights Movement. The purpose is to create a meaningful and loud use of text using the type. Superclarendon which is an interpretation of Robert Besley’s original Grotesque typeface was used as the text and body type by Emory Douglas in The Black Panther newspaper. Both typefaces are meant to convey clarity and uphold tradition and history.

Color Guide

The color guide incorporates black and grey. The secondary colors are a testament to the old Black Panther Party’s colors and combined with the primary colors are meant to emphasize the main colors of Pan-Africanism. The accent color is an ode to the many publications and influences from the Panthers that used a similar blue.
